I originally came to Sian regarding some work related stress… I suddenly started having these intense panic attacks every time I had to communicate to a group – whether it was a proper presentation, talking to a group of colleagues in a meeting or providing updates on a call, I panicked every single time. It got to the point where I was panicking about panicking – just waiting for it to happen was debilitating and affecting my career and personal life. I began to shy away from opportunities and would dread having to speak to anyone new out of fear I would panic.

The confusing part is I’m a very confident and capable person. I’m not shy by any means or afraid to speak my mind, which made the constant panicking very frustrating for me. I was sad and embarrassed and worried which just seemed to feed the panic.

I’ve been to Hypnotherapy before and it was successful for me and since my attempts to sort myself out with meditation and reading self-help books were not working, I decided to see someone.

Sian is amazing. She herself has such an open, calm and accepting demeanor and she is also extremely skilled at honing into what the issue is and framing it in a way that suits your mode of thinking (are you logical, emotional …etc) so you can truly understand it, not just know it.

We went far beyond my original panicking issue and I have felt the positive effects ripple throughout my personal and professional life. When I think back to the me who first went to see Sian, I wonder how I survived as long as I did. That was what I was doing then, surviving, desperately flapping about, trying to keep my head above the water. It was exhausting.

Now I feel like the me I always wished I could be, but thought unattainable. I’m not perfect and I have to work at staying the course but all the crap anchoring me to the dark places no longer has its hold, which makes staying the course a lot easier and more enjoyable.

I would not be this new me without Sian. I get emotional when I talk about her and I’m emotional now as I type this; she is unbelievably gifted. I was only able to go to the places I did and be as honest as I was because no matter what I said, she didn’t flinch. With Siân’s help I have been able to gain back my self esteem and confidence. I am a work in progress but have a deeper understanding in to the way I work. She has helped me to build myself up. Panic attacks and depression

I have not experienced a panic attack for some while now mainly I think because I have been using the relaxation techniques which you showed me in our hypnotherapy sessions. My depression, although not completely back to normal, is much better too. I am increasingly relaxed and confident about the future using your visualisation techniques and I am looking forward to things again – something I could not have done before I came to you. Anxiety and low confidence

I have to admit that I went to hypnotherapy with a degree of trepidation as I was unclear about how it would help me where other therapies had failed. However, my friend had recently had some sessions and I could see such a positive change in her, that I thought I’d give it a go. Siân was very open and easy to talk to and put me at my ease immediately.

What I liked about our sessions was the optimism Siân instilled in me from the beginning that I could overcome my issue which was a bit of a revelation! The way in which we worked together was very collaborative and practical, tailoring everything to me and my personality.

Panic attacks and Agoraphobia

I found Sian to be extremely personable yet professional at the same time. I felt at ease and felt she had a good understanding of my difficulties. She endeavoured to find my own specific thoughts about my areas of difficulty and encompass that within the treatment she gave. She used a varied amount of techniques some of which I have not seen other hypnotherapists do. When I was confused about techniques she explained things thoroughly. Sian is like no other hypnotherapist I have used, and I have seen two or three. Her treatment is very specific rather than a “one size fits all” approach. She followed up appointments well with supplying personalised self hypnosis CD’s or mp3s. I have noticed changes in my approach to life and my particular challenges. I still have some way to go but part of that is me being brave enough to expose myself to new things/experiences. But I have met some of the goals I had originally set myself.

I went to the theatre with my folks last night, the show ended at 5pm- which meant rush hour traffic! Normally I would have processed escape routes etc a few days before, had a sleeping tablet to make sure I wasn’t tired for driving. I did none of that. I had a late night, forgot about needing to process stuff, then when I was in traffic I could have taken an earlier exit that would have been an easier journey probably but I thought, no, let’s give this a try and see what happens. There was traffic for about 3 miles but I was chilled and very pleased! Thank you.

Free cognitive hypnotherapy consultationInitially I didn’t know what to expect from hypnotherapy. Like most people, I’d seen stage hypnotism and I knew someone who had successfully given up smoking after having hypnotherapy, but I didn’t have much idea what actually happens.

I’m happy to report that the process is very interesting and soothing rather than mysterious or confusing. The sessions took place in a pleasant environment and Siân was very friendly and reassuring. I particularly liked the way that time was given to thoroughly discussing and documenting the issue that I was looking for help with before we began. Having this preliminary session really got me thinking about change before the actual hypnotherapy session and seemed to pave the way for it to happen. It also got me really looking forward to the actual session itself.

Receiving hypnotherapy isn’t anything to be afraid of. It’s a fascinating and relaxing experience and I was completely aware of what was happening at all times. I left each session feeling calm and a little bit excited about how and when I would start to notice the effects of the work that we had done. I also received some recordings based on the sessions, to listen to at home. I find them great to listen to in bed each night.

I have received four sessions now and it really feels like the change that I was looking for has happened. As time goes by it feels as though the changes are getting stronger and more permanent. I’d be happy to recommend hypnotherapy to everyone!

Insomnia

Free cognitive hypnotherapy consultationI’d had some previous experience of hypnotherapy a few years ago for insomnia and anxiety issues, and admittedly I hadn’t given it a fair go (expecting miracles from a single session!).  Subsequently, I fell back into the all too familiar cycle of work related anxiety and resultant loss of sleep, which was beginning to have a serious impact on my family and ability to function properly in everyday life both inside and outside of work.  Sian advertised locally and I decided to give cognitive hypnotherapy a go, and this time stick with it.  Simply put, it’s the single best decision I ever made and helped me to move from a very dark place to one of acceptance, forgiveness, self-belief and sleep!  Sian explored the real root of my anxiety issues and gave me the tools to deal with them, and possibly more importantly understand the warnings signs of onset and how to nip it in the bud.  My advice to anyone who is feeling severe anxiety of any description and struggles to sleep is to seek help early on. Cognitive Hypnotherapy worked for me and I truly believe it will have a long lasting positive effect on my life.

Stammering

Stammering and confidence

Free cognitive hypnotherapy consultationCognitive Hypnotherapy was a fascinating experience. I never thought something so simple could help me so effectively. My confidence has grown immensely and I feel like a completely revitalised person. Hypnotherapy allowed me to think deep into my thoughts and feelings – channelling this energy into positivity. Imagining my future happy-self was an exercise which I found very useful, as it allowed me to see ahead of how I want to be and feel, as well as setting life goals to achieve this positive outcome. Hypnotherapy has allowed me to enjoy life more, bringing me more joy and happiness as well as great boost in self-esteem.

My stammer is still mildly present but is much less of an issue for me. Before, I used to be nervous to talk as I cared very much about how I may sound to others and was scared that I would embarrass myself. Now, however – I simply talk confidently and usually have no serious problems with my stammer. I believe this is because hypnotherapy helped me gain confidence in myself as a person so I talk more freely and care less about my stammer.

I decided to engage in hypnotherapy after a long struggle with my speech. For as long as I can remember, my speech has been dysfluent, or ‘blocky’ as I described it. I would struggle on certain words and it felt to me as though they were blocked from coming out of my mouth; I would open my mouth but I could make no sound. I found this extremely embarrassing and frustrating, and as a result tended to avoid certain professional and social situations.
 
As a psychologist I am required to engage in public speaking; while teaching students, presenting at conferences and during professional meetings. My dysfluency had begun to have a real negative impact on my life and my career, as I would become very anxious and paranoid before I would have to teach and I completely avoided conferences. I chose Sian Robinson as my hypnotherapist because she practises cognitive hypnotherapy, which is a combination of hypnotherapy, positive psychology and cognitive theory. I felt that this approach was more holistic than traditional hypnotherapy and this really appealed to me.
 
Since completing the course of hypnotherapy my life has changed significantly. Even though my dysfluency is still mildly present, I am less conscious about my speech now, which in turn has made me less anxious during teaching and meetings and I will even be presenting at a couple of upcoming conferences. This in particular is something that was inconceivable before! I am much more positive now that my speech will continue to improve, and this is all as a result of engaging in cognitive hypnotherapy with Sian.

Relationships and Self-image

Free cognitive hypnotherapy consultationI turned to cognitive hypnotherapy as a bit of a last resort, having struggled with several issues which had been sabotaging my self-image and relationships for years. Despite trying a number of treatments, nothing had really worked for me.

I only had a vague idea about what to expect from cognitive hypnotherapy but Sian was recommended to me by another practitioner after I made some initial enquiries. I knew there would be no swinging clocks involved, but didn’t realise the sessions would be so practical and easy to get into. Sian is very good at putting you at ease, having already established what I wanted to address before the first session.

The hypnosis is very calming and you’re completely in control throughout, so there’s nothing to be afraid of for those that are anxious about losing control of themselves. In fact, the whole process is quite enjoyable. My guess is that it won’t work for everyone, and that you have to enter into it with an open mind at least, otherwise your mind won’t be open to the changes the hypnotherapy will bring about.

As other testimonials have mentioned, Sian makes short recordings which you can listen to on your headphones – I listened to them when falling asleep each night. They were very calming and seemed to help cement the work we had done in the sessions.

Sian said that the changes would be subtle but noticeable, initially, and that they would snowball and gather power over time. I’ve definitely found this to be the case. The issues I wanted to address feel like a distant memory now, rather than something waiting to trip me up unexpectedly. I feel much calmer, confident and balanced, and this has already brought so much positive change into my life in the four months since I finished working with Sian. No more mind chatter, which used to be a constant, irritating companion. Unlike with the other therapies I’d tried, I don’t have the sense that the advances I’ve made will slip away in the future. It feels like the changes I’ve wanted will be permanent.

I didn’t know what to expect when I arrived for my first hypnosis session, but Siân talked me through the whole process step by step and made me feel completely comfortable.

The hypnosis/trance state just felt like having a normal conversation with my eyes closed, however I soon realised how deceptively simple this was when, even within the first session, I found myself focusing with calmness and ease on concerns which I had not managed to uncover during two years of counselling.

As I am much more of a visual person than a talkative person the techniques, which are partly talking and partly visualisation, felt much more natural to me than other ‘talking’ therapies. The mixture of talking and visualisation enabled me to access particular problems in an entirely new way and to change the way I felt about them in a way that was not only amazingly fast, but also extremely effective.

Unlike my experience of counselling, during which I felt that I was/had the ‘problem’ and the counsellor who was/had the ‘solution’, Hypnosis felt much more like I was being guided to use the resources which already existed within myself to provide my own solutions. This meant that, firstly, that the changes were much more genuine/effective and secondly, had the added benefit of massively improving my self esteem and confidence through the realisation that I could help myself, rather than relying on someone else’s answers. Far from feeling like a ‘broken’ person who needed to be ‘fixed’, with Siân the therapist-client relationship was far more equal, like talking to a good friend about a problem.

It is difficult to describe how effective some of the techniques are – at times I felt Siân had waved a magic wand and evaporated anxieties which I had had for years… I can’t recommend her enough!

Since getting back from holiday, we’ve both had encounters with near tarantulas in our house, and both handled them fine. I had a terrible phobia of snakes from being a small child to the extent I couldn’t even say the word. I couldn’t look at a photo so haven’t read a paper for years in case there was a photo of them. I would avoid any films that I knew they appeared in, if I saw the word in a novel I would put the book down for a time then skip the page. Walking down Deansgate after the sessions I felt elated and happy and realized I was not looking around to see if someone had one around their neck!! I felt amazing. Panic attacks and Agoraphobia

I found Sian to be extremely personable yet professional at the same time. I felt at ease and felt she had a good understanding of my difficulties. She endeavoured to find my own specific thoughts about my areas of difficulty and encompass that within the treatment she gave. She used a varied amount of techniques some of which I have not seen other hypnotherapists do. When I was confused about techniques she explained things thoroughly. Sian is like no other hypnotherapist I have used, and I have seen two or three. Her treatment is very specific rather than a “one size fits all” approach. She followed up appointments well with supplying personalised self hypnosis CD’s or mp3s. I have noticed changes in my approach to life and my particular challenges. I still have some way to go but part of that is me being brave enough to expose myself to new things/experiences. But I have met some of the goals I had originally set myself.

I went to the theatre with my folks last night, the show ended at 5pm- which meant rush hour traffic! Normally I would have processed escape routes etc a few days before, had a sleeping tablet to make sure I wasn’t tired for driving. I did none of that. I had a late night, forgot about needing to process stuff, then when I was in traffic I could have taken an earlier exit that would have been an easier journey probably but I thought, no, let’s give this a try and see what happens. There was traffic for about 3 miles but I was chilled and very pleased! Thank you.

Driving Phobia and Anxiety

We are in Spain and only yesterday I was able to travel on high roads through the edge of the Pyrenees, providing that there was a low wall or barrier. Could not have done this before. My driving is not a problem and I am a comfortable passenger which I was not before. I still listen to your cd if I feel it is needed especially for relaxation. Drinking

Siân completely changed my life. I first met Siân 2 years ago when I had been assaulted and had my jaw broken. I had decided I wanted to give up alcohol for good. My dad told me about Siân as he had previously used her for his fear of heights. I can honestly say it was the best thing I ever did. I had 4-5 sessions with Siân and that was me I stopped drinking. Siân gave me all different techniques to use to combat the feelings of wanting to drink. Siân completely changed my life. I would highly recommend her if you are wanting to make a life change or simply need help in your life. She is very supportive always available to answer calls or text messages. I got recordings to listen to at home which I found a massive help. For me this really worked. Siân is a wonderful caring person who is fabulous at her job. My life is so much better now and I know without Siân’s help stopping drinking would have been very hard. I honestly can’t thank her enough. She is just amazing.

Nail Biting

 

Free cognitive hypnotherapy consultationA friend of mine had accessed hypnotherapy to manage both stress and physical pain, she spent a good 12 month sat at the desk next to me at work encouraging me to give it a try as a solution to my longstanding habit of biting my nails and picking & biting the skin around my finger nails, before I finally took the plunge. This behaviour was something I felt I had no control over and which left me embarrassed about the state of my fingers. I knew that this behaviour was more prominent when I felt stressed but I often wasn’t even aware when I was doing it.

I was not sure what to expect but having plucked up the courage to get in touch with Sian and give it a try, I decided I had nothing to lose. Sian made me feel at ease and the actual process felt very natural. Sian helped me to unpick when and why the behaviour may have started and then to reframe this more positively. There were a few ‘light bulb’ moments during the sessions I had and I felt like a weight had been taken off my shoulders. After the second session my finger biting stopped. My friends and colleagues couldn’t believe the difference after seeing my healed fingers.

But this was not the end of my learning or involvement with Sian. I was perhaps a bit complacent, when no longer engaging in the behaviour and what had not yet clicked was that in order to maintain this positive change, I needed to look after myself better. Unfortunately the behaviour started again after about 4 months, my job can be very stressful at times and high pressured and I realise now that working long hours and logging on at home, left me overtired and weary. The behaviour crept back in again. I sought Sian’s support again, we revisited some of the same techniques but what was most helpful this time round were the discussions around how to sustain the positive changes, listening to my body when it is telling me to rest, realising how important work life balance is and taking the time to do the things I enjoy.

The finger biting and picking remains at bay and I am confident this will remain the case. I have found the process both fascinating and liberating and can definitely advocate it for its life changing potential. I would definitely recommend Sian to others and can’t thank Sian enough for her help.

Habits, Nail Biting

Sian has a calm, professional and non-pushy approach which made me feel relaxed and comfortable. I wasn’t sure what to expect from my session to combat nail biting. While I was sceptical going into the session I found it enormously helpful and confidence boosting. I had been considering hypnotherapy for some time when I saw an article about Sian in the local newspaper.  I have bitten my nails for as long as I can remember; this may sound like a trivial habit but I was very self-conscious of people seeing me bite my nails, and the sore, unattractive result.  Being aware of the health implications regarding the spread of bacteria and viruses I was also starting to develop a germ phobia.

Over the years I have tried a range of techniques to help me stop.  Hypnotherapy had worked for me before but the results had only lasted a few weeks; I put this down to the inexperience of the hypnotherapist. When I read how experienced and successful Sian is, I decided to make an appointment to see her.  She rang me to find out more about me and what I hoped to achieve; we discussed what the therapy would involve and I was confident that she would be able to help.

The first session was a consultation; Sian took great care to put me at my ease, and we discussed possible causes of my habit, and why I wanted to change.  She used this information to develop a plan that would result in the change I was looking for.  I really felt that the process was tailored to meet my individual needs and preferences.

I had two sessions with her; although some of the issues that came out proved to be uncomfortable the therapy gave me the opportunity to address them so their impact on my life was minimised.  I felt safe at all times, and enjoyed the feeling of not being judged, despite getting a little tearful!  Throughout the Cognitive Hypnotherapy I was fully aware of what was happening and completely in control; if you have experienced guided  meditation you will probably have a good idea of what to expect.

I am sure everyone’s experience of this type of therapy is unique but I think this is why it works; it is not some ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach.  My own experience was challenging but not unpleasant, collaborative rather than passive, and it affected me on a very deep level. One of the things that has benefitted me most is that the therapist provided MP3 recordings that I could listen to in my own time in order to consolidate the work we had done in the sessions.  I simply listen to the recordings at night as I’m falling asleep; in fact, I think my sleep and ability to relax have improved as a result.

Despite only having two hypnotherapy sessions I have not bitten my nails since.  My confidence has improved both as a result of my improved appearance and as a result of the therapy itself.  I am amazed at how effective it has been, and so pleased I took the time to make this change
in my life.

I would not hesitate to recommend Cognitive Hypnotherapy and Sian; in fact, I have already recommended her to several friends who have habits that they want to give up or behaviours that they would like to change.  Some people have been concerned at the cost of therapy, but if I had known about Quest earlier I would have saved a fortune in nail extensions, ‘stop n’ grow’ nail lotion, self-help books etc!  I would also say that the changes you experience could benefit you for the rest of your life; what else can you spend money on that can do that?  I don’t want to sound like an advert, but honestly – you’re worth it!

Teeth Grinding

I got in contact with Sian as I needed help with TMJD problems and had tried a lot of treatment options with no results. I was a little sceptical about hypnotherapy but Sian worked closely with me to identify what results I wanted to get and did a fantastic job at tailoring the best treatment for me.

I can say that after my sessions with her I now clench my jaw considerably less and I have learned to relax in ways I never knew before. As a result I now sleep more deeply and feel a lot more energised in the morning. I also feel generally happier!

As part of the therapy Sian gave me material to take away which helps immensely as keeps the therapy going even after treatment is finished. I would recommend Sian a 100% and I am very grateful for the help she has provided!

Fear of Flying

After a devastating AMH result I feared that I’d never have another baby – coupled with the emotional baggage of my Mum taking years to conceive. I felt that both of these factors had given me really negative thoughts about the possibility of conceiving again and I was in a very bad place – obsessed with doing everything I possibly could to get pregnant, it consuming my thoughts pretty much all of the time, and I felt desperate, sad and alone. However, after just a couple of sessions with Sian my mindset was transformed and I felt free. The tools Sian gave me helped me to realise that there was no reason I couldn’t conceive, that my negative thoughts were actually hindering me from conceiving and that I generally needed to begin enjoying my life again. Within weeks of meeting Sian, I fell pregnant and I cannot thank her enough. I will use the tools Sian gave me in other aspects of my life when I feel anxious or out of control. Kirsty

Fertility

Siân has quite literally changed my life. I didn’t expect hypnotherapy to work for me but following five miscarriages I had reached a point where I was open to trying anything to relax me prior to starting IVF. Years of struggling with infertility had left me fraught with worry about whether IVF would fail and whether all our issues with infertility were my fault, due to my high stress levels. Siân’s approach was completely tailored both to my situation and to my personality, allowing the sessions to be client-led. The effects were almost immediate and after a couple of sessions I began to let go of some of the pressures that I had placed upon myself to be successful, not just in IVF but in life generally. I have finally learnt to accept myself as “perfectly imperfect” and for the first time in years I have begun to enjoy life again. I laugh now at silly things, I let myself have fun, I take pleasure in those moments and I’ve rediscovered old hobbies which help to focus my mind and keep me present. All of these things have taught me to relax and lead a life that is relatively worry-free. If any worries do creep in they don’t last long anymore as Siân has taught me the skills to manage them and move on. These are skills that I have already taken forward into other aspects of my life. I’m really enjoying myself right now and I can honestly say that I am feeling very excited and positive about my future.
